Tragic death of former student

Staff at King Edward VI College are saddened by the tragic loss of Jonathan Crookes, who was killed in Afghanistan at the weekend. Jonathan is remembered as a delightful student with a wealth of skills and talents, who was well liked by staff and students. We extend our condolences to his family and fiancée.

Yorkshire Three Peaks success

On Monday 5th July a team of 12 students and 2 staff took part in a challenging sponsored walk of 26 miles to try and raise a £1000 for Mary Steven’s Hospice.

The walk included an ascent of around 5000 ft over the renowned 'Yorkshire 3 Peaks' of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, a popular trek used by many charity walkers. In cold and windy conditions most of the party completed the walk in around 12 hours, while one valiant student who had done little previous walking struggled on with aching legs to finish two hours later.

As part of their college enrichment activities, the students prepared for the challenge by walking along the canal towpath between Stourbridge and Stourport and rambling across the Clent Hills.
